FORT PIERCE, FL — The Fort Pierce Police Department almost had one of their own police cruisers stolen in the early morning hours of July 17.
Parked at the police station, Officer Robie Troutman was inside his marked police car writing a report. According to the official record of the incident, Troutman heard his passenger door handle area make a sound before a man later identified as 20-year-old Aaron Orlando Rodriquez of Okeechobee fled. He was seen hiding behind another car nearby and was quickly detained.
Police say Rodriquez admitted to eyeing the idling police car, thinking no one was inside and ready to steal it so he could have a ride home.
Rodriquez was booked at the St. Lucie County Jail on charges of attempted grand theft of a motor vehicle, loitering and possession of drug equipment since drugs were found on his person.
